A scientific seminar dedicated to global climate change was held within the framework of the «Year of Solidarity for the Green World» organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSC) of Baku State University (BSU).
Students of the faculties of Ecology and Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Journalism, Geography, Philology, Mechanics and Mathematics, Social Sciences and Psychology, Information and Document Management, International Relations and Economics, History and Oriental Studies participated in the seminar.
Mais Suleymanov, director of the Center for Organization of Scientific Activities and Innovations of BSU, noted that holding the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku is a proof of deep trust and respect for Azerbaijan in the international world. This confirms the country’s status as a responsible and reliable partner in solving global problems.
Parvana Khidirova, deputy chairwoman of the «Center for Global Cooperation and Analytical Research» Public Union, brought to the attention of the audience videos about the projects implemented to solve the water problem in arid regions of Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29.
Elchin Sardarov, WWF Azerbaijan COP29 communictions coordinator spoke about the causes of climate change, its consequences, the goals of sustainable development, a clean environment and the role of environmental journalism in his report on «Global climate changes».
WWF Azerbaijan climate change expert Elana Alizade gave information about the requirements of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, mitigation and adaptation in her speech on «Ecological aspects of climate change and adaptation».
Gunel Hajaliyeva, chairman of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of the Student Scientific Society of BSU, informed the participants about the role of young people in preventing climate change and protecting the environment.
At the end, the students’ questions were answered.
