The Society of Environmental Journalists invites you to enter the Awards for Reporting on the Environment, recognizing the best environmental reporting over the last 14 months. Enter your best stories on environment, energy, business, agriculture or other related issues published from Feb. 1, 2022 — March 31, 2023, and books with a copyright in 2022.
The best overall entry will receive the Nina Mason Pulliam Award for Outstanding Environmental Reporting: $10,000 cash prize, plus expenses to attend SEJ’s annual conference, courtesy of the The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust. A total of $7500 in cash prizes are also offered in the categories listed below.
In order to curtail the rush of entries at the deadline, we have introduced a new Early Bird discount for the first 100 awards entries. Enter now to save! Discount code: EARLYBIRD.
his year SEJ is asking contest entrants two questions to help further SEJ’s work to improve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in journalism:
- Whether their news outlets publicly post demographic data on the diversity of their staff, including a breakdown of their composition by genter and race/ethnicity.
- Whether their news outlets have participated in the News Leaders Association diversity survey, or if they plan to participate in the next survey.
The questions are on the contest payment form and answers will not be seen by judges or used in any way to evaluate entries for the 2023 awards.
Deadlines:
- Deadline to enter is May 1, 2023, 11:59 p.m. ET.
- If you miss the deadline, you have until May 15, 2023, 11:59 p.m. ET — but it will cost extra — entry fees double after May 1.
- Entry Fees: Non member journalists — 110 USD (early bird (88USD), Non member students: 25 USD (early bird 20USD)
