Inception Meeting was conducted by the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus, at the Conference Hall of the Environmental Information and Education Centre within the project “Applying Landscape and Sustainable Land Management (L-SLM) for mitigating land degradation and contributing to poverty reduction in rural areas”. The main goal of the workshop was to consult with stakeholders and have discussion around the agreed expected outcomes and outputs of the project and also to discuss and plan the further detailed steps for preparing the work packages. The meeting was attended by all stakeholders of the country, such as representatives of governmental entities, international organizations, non-governmental sectors, academic institutions etc.
This is three year project, initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource protection of Georgia and financed by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The implementing agency is the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the project is executed by the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus). The project is executing in close cooperation with Environmental Information and Education Centre (EIEC), and the partners are: Dedoplistskaro and Gardabani municipalities, EU/UNDP programme “Sustainable Management of Pastures in Georgia to Demonstrate Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Benefits and Dividends for Local Communities”, GIZ project “Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus (IBiS), and NGOs.
The Inception Workshop participants agreed, that the project will contribute in the development of SLM vision/policy, also in development of land use plans for Akhmeta and Dedoplistkaro municipalities and confirmed the need in 2 directions: rehabilitation of soils and sustainable management of pastures.
