The Sony World Photography Awards is widely recognized as the leading global photographic awards programme in existence today. The awards are dedicated to support and cultivate photographic culture. The annual awards gala and ceremony takes place in London, welcoming an international attendance of industry leaders to celebrate the recognition of the best in contemporary photography and each year also pays tribute to one of our masters with the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award.

Competitions and Awards

There are 5 competitions available for the Sony World Photography Awards and you may enter for more than one. The competitions are :

• Professional competition: Enter in this competition if you rate yourself as a highly capable photographer and try to win the Grand Prize “L’iris d’Or”which includes the Title “Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of The Year” and 25,000 US dollars. There are 45 categories in this professional competition which you can see on the link provided and also the other awards for the winners of each category;
• Open competition: This competition best suits for amateur photographers and photography enthusiasts. There are 10 categories available and here you may win the title of “Sony World Photography Awards Open Photographer of The Year” and cash prize of 5,000 US dollars;
• Student focus: The organizer would like you to take a photo of an object or scene that symbolizes modern culture to you. It could be a fashion statement, a type of washing powder, a chair or a hairstyle, but must be something you feel is a reflection of today’s society. It can be sensationalist or low key, split second or staged.
• Youth award: This competition is open for young people under 19 years old. There are three categories where you can compete including: Culture, Environment and Portraits. The winner will get the title Sony World Photography Awards Youth Award Winner”, equipment from Sony and other prizes.

Your applications can be submit at the respective links earlier provided. You can enter in any competition you want as long as your are eligible to enter and the prize you will want to win. The winners in each competition will also get a trip and accommodation to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards gala ceremony, 23 April 2015.
