Vacancy annoucement. Public Outreach Specialist

East West Management Institute implements the USAID’s Socio-Economic Development Activity (SEDA) Project in Azerbaijan. SEDA is a USAID-funded program, co-financed by the Government of Azerbaijan, designed to increase citizen participation in governance to address regional socio-economic development needs. The SEDA Project is looking to hire an Azerbaijani citizen to serve as a Public  Outreach Specialist.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Public Outreach Specialist is responsible for implementing Public Outreach Strategy of the SEDA Project. Public Outreach Specialist will use his technical skills, education, experience, and country knowledge to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Implement on a day to day basis the SEDA Public Outreach Strategy;
  • Develop and implement outreach plan for specific SEDA activities;
  • Draft content, maintain, and update SEDA’s website and/or SEDA’s page on the CSSN website;
  • Prepare content of SEDA’s quarterly newsletter and supervise the newsletter printing process;
  • Coordinate the process of writing the SEDA quarterly and annual reports to USAID;
  • Prepare SEDA’s promotional materials, including leaflets, fact sheets and success stories;
  • Conduct research and produce reports on socio-economic activities and events in Azerbaijan especially in Baku and SEDA target regions
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive SEDA contact database with ability to sort by function, location, areas of interest, etc.;
  • Maintain a database of media;
  • Establish and maintain productive professional working relationships with communication/public outreach officers at USAID and other donor organizations, other USAID or internationally funded programs, and media sources (print, TV, radio, internet, other);
  • Coordinate any necessary media appearance, or press event for the project;
  • Conduct media monitoring and maintain a file on any SEDA media coverage;

Period of Performance

Full-time, long-term position based in Baku. The project is expected to be funded  through September 2016.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Administration, Planning, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public outreach, public relations, media relations, communications, public affairs, intergovernmental relations, or a related field with a public agency or private company.
  • A minimum of five years of experience developing communications strategies and plans, and writing copy for articles, news releases, collateral materials and public information campaigns.
  • Knowledge of event planning to include sites and facilities selection, event logistics, scheduling techniques, publicity, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in English and Azeri.
